Dangerous Animals (Amazon Prime) – I was pleasantly surprised by this gnarly horror flick about a shark tour operator/serial killer whose chosen method of murder is shark.

A Man on the Inside (Netflix) – I’m halfway through the second season of this warm and funny half-hour comedy, and what I like most about it is that, similar to the first season, the central mystery is of no real importance. I assume at some point Ted Danson’s undercover senior-citizen detective will figure out who’s behind the efforts to stop a billionaire from donating money to a small college, but the real fun here is just watching the well-drawn cast of colourful characters interact with each other.

The Beast in Me (Netflix) – First things first, I appreciate that this show doesn’t look like your typical Netflix production, in that there’s actual contrast, even shadows, in the image. Second things second, it’s just great to watch two top-notch actors like Claire Danes and Mathew Rhys ping pong off of each other. Then you throw in some Jonathan Banks, and you’ve got yourself a stew (as Carl Weathers used to say on Arrested Development).

The Savage Sword of Conan #11 – Writer/illustrator Liam Sharp’s black-and-white story in the latest installment of this magazine-sized comicbook is a thing of absolute beauty, and blood and guts and good ol’ Cimmerian savagery, too.
