Favourite 2/3rds-of-the-Way-Through-2025 Movies

12. The Legend of Ochi – The Dark Crystal meets E. T. crossed with the Pete’s Dragon remake.

11. The Order – Gripping true-crime procedural centred by a great Jude Law performance

10. Companion – A clever, twisty bit of sci-fi genre filmmaking.

9. The Luckiest Man in America – Paul Walter Hauser does his one-of-a-kind Paul Walter Hauser thing in this almost-too-strange-to-be-believed, based-on-a-true-story story.

8. Black Bag – A tight, smart, Steven Soderbergh/David Koepp espionage joint that keeps you on your toes.

7. Mickey 17 – There are enough original ideas packed into this bonkers (in a good way) Bong Joon Ho movie for 15 or so regular movies.

6. The Ballad of Wallis Island – Excellent character piece about a man who orchestrates the reunion of a folk singing duo for a concert on a remote Welsh island.

5. Predator: Killer of Killers – Exceptionally well choreographed and executed animated Predator movie from the guy who made the exceptionally well choreographed and executed live-action Predator prequel Prey.

4. The Life of Chuck – Mike Flanagan nails another Stephen King adaptation.

3. Superman – James Gunn had me with Metamorpho.

2. Weapons – Zach Cregger bucks the dreaded sophomore slump and delivers a terrific horror/thriller.

1. Flow – This gorgeous cat-centric Oscar-winner instantly because my all-time favourite animated movie.
